Major League Baseball Player. Played third base for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, New York/San Francisco Giants, and Kansas City Athletics. His 21 home runs and 112 RBI in 1953 stood as Cardinal rookie records until 2001, and he finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting. Hit .296 with 104 RBI the following season, making him the first Cardinal ever to drive in 100 runs in each of his first two seasons and earning him selection to the National League All-Star team. Retired with a .268 lifetime batting average and 83 home runs.
