Served in Civil War Army as Cpt in Co. H 139th Reg. OVI 2 May 1864-6 Aug. 1864. b. in Fayette, OH. Death due to lung injury caused by a fall.

From the 9/17/1915 Van Wert Daily/Morning Times:
"Moses McCoy, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Van Wert and Van Wert County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.J. Humphreys on East Main street Thursday morning. Death came as a result of old age. Mr. McCoy is a native of Fayette County and was born November 8, 1828. The family moved to Ridge Township, Van Wert County, in 1839, where they lived until 1869, when they moved near Van Wert. Mr. McCoy attended the subscription schools of his early boyhood, acquiring a very good education. December 24, 1851, he married Elmira Gilliland. Soon after his marriage Mr. McCoy settled on a farm, possession of which he had retained to his death. He never failed to labor on his farm and when too old to work he would go to the farm and supervise the labor there. Mr. McCoy was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church and one of the oldest Odd Fellows in the county. During the Civil War he serviced his country with the 139th O.V.I. Mr. McCoy was a man much admired for his dignity and integrity, and the sweetness of his disposition. He was a man who was respected by all, even those who were not well acquainted with him. During his life he had served the community in nearly every office in Ridge Township and in the office of Infirmary Director. Since the death of his wife in 1906 he had lived with his daughter, Mrs. J.J. Humphreys. His survivors are Mrs. J.J. Humphreys, Van Wert; Dr. G.G. McCoy, Delphos, T.S. McCoy, Canaan, New York. The funeral services will be held in the First Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. Christie. Burial will be made in Woodland."
