Enlisted in the Confederate Army and was the last Civil War veteran to die in Wayne County.

Henderson H. Lilly: 2nd Corp/5th Sgt. Adam's Battery/Co A. 30th Battalion VA Sharpshooters, Enlisted June 22,1861 at Raleigh Co.,WV's Courthouse. Capt. Ft. Donelson Feb. 16,1862. POW at Camp Douglas until exchanged at Vicksburg by Sept. 2, 1862 as a 2nd Corp.

Reported to Ballalion from prison on Oct. 17,1862 and promoted to 5th Sgt. Sept. 1,1862. Listed as deserted since Nov. 11,1862. Returned by Dec. 31, 1862 and present until deserted July 23, 1863.

On Federal Roll of Rebel deserters taking the oath Oct. 11,1863 sent to Ohio,age 24, 5'8, fair complexion, blue eyes, drk hair, residence, Raleigh Co.,W.Va., farmer.

Another record listed his residence at Hans Creek, Monroe Co.,V.Va., a. Born May 15, 1839 Father Edmond, Mother Elizabeth, Brother of James, Allen and John A. Lilly. His wife was a cousin to George Houchins. Listed on the 1860 Raleigh census as age 21, living with his mother, Married Francis Katherine Harvey on Aug. 5, 1865 and had at least 4 children. Moved to Middletown, Henry Co.,IN., at the close of the war or after taking oath. Attended the 1938 celebration at Gettsyburg. The oldest living soldier there at age 98. Died Oct. 10,1940 at the age of 101.
