Billy Anderson "Andy" Austin

Billy Anderson "Andy" Austin, 58, died of heart failure, Monday, August 22, 2011 at his home. Visitaton is set for 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, at Kilmichael Baptist Church in Kilmichael, MS and one hour prior to service time at the church. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Kilmichael Baptist Church with burial in the Bethel Cemetery near Kilmichael. Rev. Gary Jackson will officiate the services.

Andy was born September 6, 1952, to the late Woodrow and Frances Miles Austin of Kilmichael. He was one of two sons born into this family of seven girls and two boys. He was reared surrounded and much beloved by his seven sisters and passionately protected by his brother. He graduated Kilmichael High School in 1970, attended Holmes Community College and worked all his adult life in Montgomery County. He married Connie Adkins on July 20, 1976. He and Connie had three children, a son and two daughters, and now four grandchildren. He greatly loved his role of "Poppy" to his grandchildren.

He was employed at Kilmichael Drug Store for approximately 14 years and spent the next 21 years at Dacus Furniture Store in Winona, MS until his health declined in 2010. Andy was a faithful member of Kilmichael Baptist Church where he was born again in August, 1973, and for the past 32 years has faithfully served as custodian for his church as well as taught a men's Sunday School class for almost 25 years and served as music director during interim periods. In addition, he served as alderman for the City of Kilmichael for a number of years. The many customers he served during his employment at both Kilmichael Drug Store and Dacus Furniture were very fond of him and appreciated his customer service spirit and words of encouragement he so freely dispensed. Countless individuals as well as his family were blessed by his brief life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill Austin in 2007, and his sister Judy Austin Spurgeon who died February, 2011. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Connie, daughters Hollie Austin of Olive Branch, MS, Desirae Austin of Tupelo, MS,and son Matthew Austin of Kilmichael; four grandchildren, Cole and Zachary Crouch, Savannah Grace Armstrong, and Brayden Austin; six sisters, Paula Clark of Atlanta, GA, Glynda Austin of Madison, MS, Melba Darton of Greenville, SC, Janet Bryant of Starkville, MS, Deborah Balle of Kilmichael MS, and Kasey Pennino of Deltona, FL; sister-in-law, Sheila Austin of Orlando, FL, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Kilmichael Baptist Church, P. O. Box 172, Kilmichael, MS 39747.
