Chase Hunter Jr. age 77, of 8571 Granville Road, Mount Vernon, died Monday November 26, 2001 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon following an extended illness. Chase was born July 27, 1924 in Clinton Township to Chase Baxter Hunter Sr. and Helen Patience (Cosner) Hunter and had been a farmer in Clinton Township all of his lifetime

Chase was an active member of the Brandon United Methodist Church where he had served on numerous committees including the Board of Trustees and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

He served on the Producers Livestock Association Board for 11 years. Chase enjoyed working with young people which he did, in part, as a 4H advisor for 12 years and by serving on the Junior Fair Livestock Sales Committee for 23 years.

He served on the Knox County Sheep Improvement Association for 23 years and in 1988 he received the Lifetime Recognition Award and he also received at that time a lifetime membership to the state wide organization for sheep improvement. The sheep improvement committee further honored Mr. Hunter this past spring with the Shepherd's Award. Chase had served as a 23 year member and past president of the board for Mount Vernon Farmers Exchange, Co. In 1985 he and his wife received the Distinguished Service to Cooperatives Award. Chase served on the Board of Directors for United Precast, Inc. In Mount Vernon. He was a 28 year member and past Grange Master of Clinton Grange. He enjoyed baseball as a youth and played for the Brandon Blues baseball team.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years Waneda (Singer) Hunter; 2 sons David Chase Hunter and John Michael (Michele) Hunter, and his daughter Jane (Robert) Kuhlman all of Mount Vernon; 6 grandchildren Michael Chase Hunter, Joel Kuhlman, Jeremy Kuhlman, Katie Kuhlman; Timothy Chase Kuhlman, and Tamara Rudder ; his sister Pauline Graham of Mount Vernon and his niece JoAnn Graham of Mount Vernon. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son Daniel Lee Hunter.

Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 3 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Brandon Cemetery.
