Nancy Nettleton Rood, age 88 of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on August 20, 2011 at Hewitt Health & Rehab Center. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Hopkins Rood and a proud, lifelong member of the Valley community. Nancy was born in Derby on July 15, 1923 daughter of the late Francis and Marion Atwater Treat Nettleton.
A graduate of The Day School (Hopkins) and Mary Baldwin College, Nancy received her Masters of Education from the University of Bridgeport and worked for 24 years as a Kindergarten teacher at both Ferry and Lafayette Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1991. Nancy was a dedicated lifelong parishioner at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Shelton, where she sang in the choir and dedicated much of her time. She was a member of numerous organizations including: the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, Griffin Hospital Auxiliary, and Hewitt Memorial Hospital's Volunteer Group. Nancy was a caring and generous woman who never hesitated to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Most notably, she will be remembered as a "Valley Icon", the vibrant woman, who along with her husband, walked anywhere and everywhere together. Nancy is the beloved mother of Judy Bosch and her husband Ralph; and the adored grandmother of Kathryne Bosch.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. Her funeral will depart from the Riverview Funeral Home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Shelton. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton.
