The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 27 March 1968
Susie Larkin Passes Thursday at Age 94
Mrs. Andrew (Susie) Larkin, 94, former Chouteau county resident, died Thursday at a Great Falls rest home after a long illness.
Susie Barrett was born Sept. 27, 1873, at Salem, Missouri, and married Andrew Larkin there Sept. 12, 1892. They farmed there for a number of years but in 1896 Mr. Larkin made the first of several trips to Montana to work for sheep companies near Fort Benton, Havre and Great Falls. He liked the country and in 1909 the Larkin family moved here permanently.
They homesteaded in the Russell country north of Carter, and Mr. Larkin was a realtor and operated a livery stable at Carter in homestead days. For a number of years they lived in Fort Benton. They operated a restaurant at Carter for years, finally retiring and moving to Fairfield in 1950, continuing to live active lives. Mr. Larkin died Nov. 24, 1965, at the age of 96.
Survivors include two sons, Rudolph and Lawrence Larkin of Great Falls; seven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the George Co. chapel in Great Falls, with burial in Riverside cemetery.
