Solon Robinson was born Oct. 21, 1803 at the Town of Tolland, Conn., the 4th of five sons of Jacob Robinson, Jr. and Salinda Ladd.

Through his paternal great grandmother, Ann (Fuller) Robinson, Solon was a descendant of Edward Fuller of the 1620 Mayflower passage. Through his father, Solon was a lineal descendant of Rev. John Robinson late of Leiden, Holland, the Separatist pastor at Leiden of the core Pilgrims who sailed in 1620 on the Mayflower and founded the Plymouth Colony.

Solon was an important figure in American agriculture and agricultural literature, details of which will be added later.

Solon m. 1) on May 12, 1828 in Cincinnati, OH, Mariah Wells, born Nov. 16, 1799 at Germantown, Philadelphia County, PA, dau. of Thomas and Keziah Evans. Mariah d. Feb. 28, 1782 in Crown Point, Indiana where she is interred. Solon and Mariah had six children, but only daughter Josephine Salinda Robinson left descendants of this family.

On June 30, 1872 probably at Jacksonville, Florida, Solon m. 2) Mary Johnson, his long-time personal secretary. There were no children from this marriage. She d. at Jacksonville on May 3, 1901.

Solon died at Jacksonville, Florida Nov. 3, 1880 where he was interred. In 1993 Solon was reinterred at Crown Point, Indiana, the town he founded.
