Virgil Emory Aker, 88, of Brazil died at 11:53 am on December 22, 2004, at Cloverleaf Health Care Facility in Knightsville.

Born September 17, 1916 to John and Ida Mae Brattain Aker. He joined the United States Army in 1941; serving in WWII and earning several medals.

On November 3, 1942 he married Betty Virginia Kettering. After his discharge from the Army he spent some time farming around the Lena area then began working for the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier from which he retired in 1976.

He was a member of the Lena United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a member of the Carbon Masonic Lodge #529 and he enjoyed gardening, and wood working.

He is survived by two sons; Jerry Aker and wife Mary of St. Louis Mo., and Terry Aker and wife Sherry of Rushville In.. Three daughters Judy and husband Larry Foulke of Greencastle, Kathy and husband Herschel White of Brazil, and Cindy and husband Richard Brown of Brazil. Eleven grandchildren; Tresa Botzum, Stephanie Owen, Shannan Lock, Tara Foulke, Stacie Padgett, Jaime Harden, Tim Aker, Jeremy Foulke, Molly Stark, Brian Brown, and Brandy Brown. As well as fourteen great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers Earl Aker and Eli Aker; and two sisters Lucille Ames and Jean Earl.


Funeral Information
Services will be Tuesday December 28, 2004 at 2:00pm at French Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.

Donations Information
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lena United Methodist Church.
