US Congressman, US Senator, Baltimore Mayor. Served as a Colonel in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Elected to represent Maryland's 5th District and as At-Large in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1793 to 1803, and 1816 to 1822. Also served as a Member of the Maryland State House of Delegates from 1790 to 1792, United States Senator from Maryland from 1803 to 1815, and 1822 to 1833, and Mayor of Baltimore, Maryland, from 1835 to 1838.
