John Berryhill married Rachel Moffat in 1749 in Augusta County, VA. John's marker has Berryhill listed as two words, Berry Hill.

Several centuries ago in Scotland, there was a family named "Hill". This family went to North Ireland to become part of that remarkable people known as Scotch-Irish. In North Ireland, one member of the family was a grower of Berries. He became known as Berry-Hill, and his descendants John, Samuel, Andrew, and William, all brothers, came to America at various times during the period between 1685-1730. One Berryhill had his name legally restored to "Hill", presumably as a consession to his fancied regard for historical accuracy. This John Berry Hill's father was the John listed above. He used the spelling Berryhill and this John's children used the spelling Berryhill. Maybe this John was the person who changed his last name, maybe in later years and after his children's last name was established.

The name Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery was changed to Oak Grove Cemetery in 2020 by the Lexington City Council. He shares the plot with his wife, Rachel (Moffet) Berryhill.
