MRS. FRANK L. COOMBS IS CLAIMED BY DEATH ANGEL
BELOVED RESIDENT OF NAPA PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY AT FAMILY RESIDENCE ON SEMINARY STREET

With deepest sorrow and regret we today are called upon to chronicle the passing from this life of Mrs. Frank L. Coombs greatly beloved wife of Hon. Frank L. Coombs, who for over a half century has been one of Napa's most estimable residents.

Mrs. Coombs was claimed by the Angel of Death at the family residence on Seminary Street at 7:30 o'clock last evening. She had not been in the best of health for several months buy no apprehensions were felt concerning her condition until a few days ago when she was suddenly prostrated by a failing heart. She received every attention that nurses and physicians could suggest, but she sank rapidly. The unusually warm weather seemed to enervate her. Suddenly the end came at the four noted above, as she surrounded by the members of her family.

Mrs. Combs was born on November 14th, 1857, in Gardner, a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, and was a direct descendant of a prominent old Colonial family, one of her ancestors being Colonial Governor Richardson. Her great-grandfather was Charles Wilson Peal, famous as an artist and portrait painter of Colonial days, many of whose pictures found places of prominence not only in Washington, D. C., but in various European capitals.

Mrs. Coombs was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Foster Roper. She was educated in Boston, and was graduated from Mt. Holyoke College. Later she taught school for a short time in Boston. She was married in Boston to frank L. Coombs of Napa, California, at that time a young lawyer just graduated from college, with whom she had become acquainted during High School days in Dorchester, Mass.

Following the wedding ceremony in 1879 she came to Napa, California, on the honeymoon, and established the home in Napa in Which she had resided ever since. She was a woman of talent and of culture, of unusual charm, possessed of gracious traits of character that immediately gained for her a wide circle of friends which she held throughout a long and a happy lifetime.

She was devoted to her home and to her family, and her greatest pleasure was to be surrounded by her loved ones, her four grandsons being the greatest joy of her more recent years.

With her husband, Hon. Frank L. Coombs, Mrs. Coombs celebrated her Golden Wedding Anniversary at the residence in Napa in 1929, the occasion being a most delightful one long to be remembered by their hosts of friends.

Throughout her husband's long and honorable public career Mrs. Coombs was ever a true helpmate, a dependable counsellor, a devoted assistant, a loving companion.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Coombs is survived by three children; Nathan F. Coombs, prominent lawyer of Napa; Mrs. H. C. Dunlap of Napa Valley; and Miss Dorothy Coombs of Napa. There are also four grandsons: David Dunlap, Gordon Dunlap, Frank Dunlap and John Dunlap. Three brothers, Howard Roper of Napa, Clifford Roper of Napa and Ralph Roper of Alameda also survive her. Mrs. Coombs parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Foster Roper, passed away in Napa many years ago.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 o'clock tomorrow morning from the family residence on Seminary Street.
