Irvin was born on October 17, 1930, in Lynchburg, VA, the son of the late Ocie Hunter Tweedy, Jr. and Helen Evans Tweedy. He proudly served his country in the United States Naval Reserve during the years 1949 to 1957, was retired as a Quality Control Engineer with General Electric, and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his two sons Irvin Hunter Tweedy, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA, and Aaron Romain Tweedy and his wife Janice Blunt Tweedy of Germantown, MD, two grandchildren, Nathan A. Tweedy and Bridget K. Tweedy both of Germantown, MD, one brother Robert O. Tweedy of Lynchburg, three sisters; Wylene T. McGuire and her husband George of Lynchburg, VA, Wanda T. Baldock and her husband Julian of Lynchburg, VA, and Darnell T. Crouch and her husband Allen of Bowling Green, three nieces and six nephews. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. James Vandewater, Dr. Jason Hackenbracht, and the nurses in the Cardiac Ward at Lynchburg General Hospital for all the care and support given to Irvin over the years.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, March 2, 2008 at Tharp Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday March 3, 2008 in Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Anthony Busic officiating.
