Rollie Collins
Horry Herald June 9, 1910
On the evening of April 30th, 1910 the death angel came and took from us our darling little babe, Rollie Collins. He was spared to live with us only nineteen months. On Friday afternoon about sunset I bathed and put the darling little one to bed about as well as usual, we thought, but a short while after we discovered that he had a burning fever. All was done that loving hands could do, but it was evident that nothing but death could relieve the sufferings of the darling little one, and on Saturday afternoon about five o'clock he sweetly fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. His illness was short but oh! So painful!
Dear Little Rollie was only spared us for only a short while, but, oh! How we loved him. By his loving disposition and sweet ways he won the love of many who knew him.
He was buried the following day at Hickory Grove cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. G. W. Chestnut in the presence of many sorrowing relatives and friends. Dear Little Rollie, thou art gone and left us, but we know that 'tis God that has bereft us. Oh! It is so hard to give him up, but we know the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away and we must submit to his holy will.
While it pleased our Heavenly father to call from earth away our darling little one, may it be our purpose in life to instruct by precept and example our other little ones to so live that we will all meet Rollie an unbroken family around the throne of God.
