Donald Fickel, 63 of Fairfield, died Saturday, December 9th, 2006 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota following a lingering illness.

Survivors include his wife Esther of Fairfield; three sisters, Dorothy (Pete) Crawford of Houston, Texas, Marilyn (Dick) Korseberg of Washburn, Wisconsin, Mary Sue Fickel of Indianola, Iowa

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Robert and a sister Lola Belle Ranard.

Donald was born September 28, 1943 at Batavia, Iowa. He was the son of Alfred Earl and Mary Billingsley Fickel. He was a graduate of Indianola High School and Iowa State University. In 1974 he married Esther Hough at Washington, Iowa. Don was a veteran serving in the US Army. Don worked in lost prevention at the Wal-Mart Warehouse in Mt. Pleasant and was also a door greeter for Wal-Mart. On
September 13, 2005 he received a heart transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Memorials may be given in Don's name to the First Christian Church in Fairfield.
