Louis Drees Dies; Retired Businessman

Louis W. Drees, 74, retired Carroll businessman, died at 10:30 pm Monday at his home, 1712 North West Street, after a lingering illness. He was the founder of the Drees Oil Company and Drees Heating and Plumbing, which he operated until retiring in 1968. He had been in business here since 1934.

Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 1 pm Thursday in St. Lawrence Church by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry B. Karhoff. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Twit Funeral Home after 7:30 pm Tuesday. The rosary will be recited there at 8 and 8:45 pm Tuesday and at 3, 8 and 8:45 pm Wednesday, the last by the Knights of Columbus. The Elk's memorial service will be at the funeral home at 7:30 pm Wednesday.

Mr. Drees was a lifelong resident of Carroll County. A son of Henry Sr. and Anna Fangman Drees, he was born at Roselle April 11, 1900. On June 3, 1924, he was married to Theresa Eischeid at St. Augustine's Church in Halbur, with the late Rev. Bernard Schilmoeller performing the ceremony. The couple celebrated their golden anniversary on June 3 of this year.

Mr. Drees was a member of St. Lawrence Church, the Elk's Lodge, Knights of Columbus and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.

Surviving with his wife are seven children: Louis J. of Vero Beach, Fla.; Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Collison, Don, Howard, Mrs. Daryl (LaVonne) Daeges and Doug, all of Carroll, and Mrs. Dorothy Kammin of Ames; 42 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Frank Wittrock of Halbur.

Mr. Drees was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Dentlinger, Mrs. August (Ella) Wittrock, Mrs. Joe (Anna) Schneider, Mrs. Jan (Evalina) Nosal and Mrs. Frank (Celia) Kraus; and five brothers, Joe, John, Henry, Ed and Richard Drees.
