King of Imereti. He was the 36th and last ruling King of the region of western Georgia known as the Kingdom of Imereti. Born Prince David of Imereti, he was the nephew of King Solomon I and ruled as Solomon II from 1789 to 1790 and again from 1792 to 1810. His reign, like many of his predecessors, was marked by internal strife, civil war and in fighting over rights of succession. His acceptance of a Treaty of Protection with the Russian Empire in 1804 ended with the kingdom's annexation by Russia in 1810. From 1810 on he lived in exile, unsuccessfully seeking help for Imereti's independence from the Turkish and Persian governments and even making a personal appeal to Emperor Napoleon of France.
