Bernard Arthur Lange, age 97, of Fairmont, formerly of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Fairmont Medical Center.

Bernard Arthur was born on July 2, 1908 to William & Hannah (Wandersee) Lange at the family homestead in Home Township, MN. He was baptized on August 16, 1908 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye by Rev. August F. Zich; his sponsors were William & Minnie Timm. Bernard completed the eighth grade at rural Sleepy Eye School District #22. He was confirmed in Essig, MN at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church on June 3, 1923 in the German Language. After graduating from Sleepy Eye High School in 1930, he attended Minneapolis Business College for one year majoring in junior accounting (April 22, 1931). Bernard lived in Dubuque, Iowa for a time and worked for Oscar Friton of rural Sleepy Eye before starting farming on his own in October of 1934 and harvested his first crop in 1935. On January 22, 1936 Bernard was united in marriage to Adeline Anna Orth at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Parsonage in New Ulm. This union was blessed with two daughters, Shirleyann and Sandra. In 1941, he purchased the 160 acre family farm from his father. He retired in 1985 after 50 years. In 1994 the couple moved into Sleepy Eye. In September of 2005 Bernard became a resident at Lakeview Health Care Center in Fairmont to be closer to his daughter. He was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye. He enjoyed latchhooking rugs, old time music and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Adeline of 70 years, daughter, Shirleyann & husband Bob Talle of Blue Earth, five grandchildren; Michelle (Mark) Graham of Mankato, Erica (Robert) Nowak of Burnsville, Trent (Rebecca) Talle of Eagle Lake, Jennifer Gregg and Amy Gregg, both of Chaska, three great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Alyssa Graham and Logan Talle, three sisters, Toots Rono of Sleepy Eye, Sade Ladd of Benson, Arlene Seifert of Sleepy Eye and son-in-law, Randy Gregg of Chaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandra, brother Jake, and sisters, Helen, Freida and Edna.
