Mr. William "Bill" Allen Lamar, 91, of Asheboro, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Randolph Hospice House.

A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 pm Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church with Dr. Ron Hamilton and Rev. Jeff Garner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

A native of Randolph County, NC, Mr. Lamar was born July 25, 1920. He was the son of the late William Dougan Lamar and Blanche Robbins Lamar. He retired from Union Carbide and was a member of Rushwood Wesleyan Church. Mr. Lamar served in the US Army during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Sloan Lamar; grandson, Jerry Wayne Lamar; sister, Thelma Lamar Trotter; and brothers, Charles Grayson Lamar and Leon Lamar.

Mr. Lamar is survived by his wife, Agnes Lamar; daughter, Elaine Freeman and husband, Harold of Asheboro, NC; sons, Gary Lamar and wife, Judy of Asheboro, NC, Darrell Lamar and wife, Carolyn of Asheboro, NC, Charles Lamar, of Asheboro, NC; sister, Betty Hinshaw, of Asheboro, NC; 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Sawyersville Wesleyan Church
