Poet, chergyman, and scholar. Best known work was the song "Columbia". He was the eighth president of Yale College (1795–1817).
"The Presbyterian Mission Board established an Indian mission and school here in 1830 shortly after the Cherokees began arriving from their former homes in the SE states. In the heart of the Cookson Hills, it is one of eastern Oklahoma's prettiest spots. The mission was named for Timothy Dwight, president of Yale University."
