On December 28, 1921, Johnnie married Obia Cleburne Turner who was born July 26, 1892 in Ashland, Mississippi (Benton County). Obia had been married before to Sadie Jones and had three children by his earlier marriage: Carol, Wayne, and Kenneth. Johnnie and Obia also had three children: Kathleen Turner born September 22, 1922; Dorothy Ann Turner born June 28, 1924; and Jimmie Cleburn Turner born February 3, 1926 and died February 28, 1972.
Johnnie died January 14, 1933 in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried there in Highland Cemetery. Obia died August 16, 1980 in Wilson, Oklahoma (Carter County) and was buried in Burneyville, Oklahoma (Love County).
