Richard "Dick" L. Budig, 81, of Great Bend, Kansas died Friday, August 19, 2011 at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born February 9, 1930 at Redwing, Kansas the son of Anton and Eleanor (Mauler) Budig. Richard married Mary Ann Dobson May 20, 1949 at Stockton, Kansas. She preceded him in death on April 30, 1998. He was a Great Bend, Kansas resident since 1993 coming from Derby, Kansas and worked for Younger Energy as an oilfield pumper before retiring in 2007. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kansas and the Knights of Columbus Council #2100 in Olmitz, Kansas. He enjoyed gambling, reading and watching John Wayne movies. Survivors include one son: Gene Budig of Great Bend, Kansas; five daughters: Barbara Sicks of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joan Budig of Great Bend, Kansas, Mickey Wayman of Mulvane, Kansas, Sandy Stos of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brenda Budig Young of Great Bend, Kansas; five sisters: Irene Sanders of Pacifica, California, Kathy McGrath of Pleasant Hills, California, Bea Axman of Olmitz, Kansas, Lenora Hutton of Great Bend, Kansas, Helen Stos of Olmitz, Kansas; two brothers: Art Budig of Woodward, Oklahoma, Bernard Budig of Antioch of California; sixteen grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gene Budig; one sister Esther Saling and a great-grandson, Brogen Budig. Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, August 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas with Father Ultan Murphy as celebrant. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery at Great Bend, Kansas. Friends may call Sunday, August 21, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Heartland Cancer Center or Golden Belt Hospice in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, box 146, Hoisington, Kansas 67544.
