PORTSMOUTH - Eric C. Holland, 90, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 21, 2011 at his home. Born Oct. 28, 1920 in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late Wallace and Bertha Holland of Portsmouth. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 67 years, Virginia Pierce Holland; his daughter, Gloria Holland of Woodbridge, Va.; and his sister, Iris Vick of Portsmouth. Eric, a proud Navy veteran, worked for 38 years as a machinist in the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard. Eric was a 60 year member of the Seaboard Masonic Lodge No. 56 AF&AM, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite, member of Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter No. 11 and Past Patron Fellowship Chapter No. 140, O.E.S. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at West End Methodist Church. Interment will be at Olive Branch Cemetery immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Snellings Funeral Home, Churchland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West End Methodist Church. Eric will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His life has been a source of inspiration and an example for all to follow.
