Mary had lived in the Washington, D.C., area for 60 years.
She was a daughter of LeRoy and Marie Louise Moore McWherter.
Mary attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Va., and Tusculum College in Greeneville.
She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. David Irving Bowie.
Mary is survived by three daughters: Marie and Frances Bowie and Leslie (Kurt) Hopkin, and one son: Henry (Patti) Bowie, all of the Washington, D.C., area; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Louise McIntyre; and one brother: Ned McWherter.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 21, 2011) in the Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-3 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
