She was a devout catholic and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary church since the founding of the church by the Rev. Harold McNeil in the early fifties. She was a proud and longtime member of the Christian Mothers. In her later years, she became an avid bingo player where she had many friends and acquaintances, among them was Teresa Burrows who became very special to her.
She is survived by one daughter, Dolores Hayes Shelton, two sons, Paul Thomas, Sr., and Gregory Hayes and one daughter-inlaw, Mary Jane Malveaux Thomas. God blessed her with nine grandchildren: Brenda Thomas Fontenot, Jerome Thomas, Paul Thomas, Jr., Keith Shelton, Sherry Shelton Monsanto, Mark Anthony Thomas, Patrick Thomas, Stephanie Shelton Jackson, and Andrea Thomas. She also has twentyfive great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews from the James, Hayes and Simien families.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The Rev. Marcus Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum under the direction of the Combre Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6-9pm Friday, August 19, in Combre Funeral Home.
