Earl was born on 2 May 1893 in Munhall Terrace, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. He married Anna Mae Lyden on 16 May 1913 in Homestead, Pennsylvania. His sisters did not approve of Anna, feeling that their brother could have done better than her.

When his parents and sisters moved to Florida in 1917, Earl chose to remain in the Pittsburgh area. Earl worked as a pipe fitter, a shipper, and at one point had a store. He was also a drummer in a band.

Once, when they owned the store, his daughter Dorothy was working there when a woman came in, dripping in furs, and asked to see him. Dorothy, believing that this was a girlfriend of her father's, went and got her mother instead, who introduced Dorothy to her aunt (sorry, don't know which one).

Another time, when Earl and Anna were throwing a party, and Earl's boss arrived, he threw his daughter Dorothy the keys to the boss's car and told her to park it. Dorothy (who had never driven before) crashed the car. Earl told her that "if you can't drive any better than that, then you shouldn't drive at all" and Dorothy never drove again.

Earl and Anna had seven children -- Dorothy, Margurite, Irene, Gladys (all born between 1913-1920), and then Frank, Cecelia, and Kate (all born 1930-1932).

Earl died at the age of 44 on 7 Jan 1938, and was buried at Ann Ashley Cemetery (aka Franklin Cemetery), in Munhall, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania.
