Civil War veteran.
Mark H. Hillard (Hillyard). Enlisted in Co. K, 27th Mich. Infantry, in the fall of 1863; participated in the battles of Wilderness and was wounded June 3, 1864, at Cold Harbor; promoted 1st sergeant; discharged August 1, 1865.

Mark H. Hillyard, was the second son of Jesse and Lavina Hillyard. He was a physician and surgeon, resident of Dushville, Isabella County, Mich., was born in Lawrence County, New York, March 22, 1840. He was married to Miss Abigail Judd, November 8, 1866. She died February 16, 1871. Dr. Hillyard came to Isabella County, April 30, 1880 and resided at Dushville, Freemont Township, Isabella County, Michigan.

Mark Hillyard married Abigail Judd sometime before 1870. She was born about 1845 in Camden, Hillsdale County, MI to Liberty and Ann Judd. She died 16 Feb 1871 at the age of 25 years, 10 months, and 7 days. See memorial 36018507. No children to this union.

Mark then married a divorcee, Anna Viola ‘Viola' Waylen
7 Dec 1879 in Hillsdale County, MI. She had been married to Frank B. Cassill (from Ohio). They had one daughter Minnie B. in Michigan and then Nettie in Ohio. The two daughters went with their father and his new wife for at least 10 years. The oldest daughter came back to the same location that Mark and Anna V are living and married Charles B Stutting in 1893. They have a son: Henry M. Stutting in 1894. Minnie died in 1898. In the 1900 census Mark and Anna Hillyard are raising their grandson Henry. After Mark died in 1832, her nephew Clair Hillyard (son of Ernest Hillyard) moved in with her and apparently became a ‘favorite nephew'.
