John D Bolick, a member of the Dallas police force, died at his home, corner of Second Avenue and Ash lane, in Exposition Park, this city, yesterday morning at 4:30 o'clock. His death was caused by la grippe. He was 44 years old.
The deceased had been suffering for several days before he was confined to his bed. Last Thursday afternoon, however, he was seized with convulsions and rapidly grew worse. He was born in Chester County, South Carolina, and in 1871 or 1872 moved to Pickton county, Tennessee. (Tipton) While there he became constable and served with credit as deputy sheriff.
On December 24, 1882 he married Miss Belle Harper. In 1883 he came to Dallas. In 1889 he was appointed deputy sheriff under W H Lewis. In 1898 he was elected by the county commissioners to serve out an unexpired term as constable of precinct No 1. A few months ago he became a member of the police department. He was very popular. His brother officers say that he was a man possessed of great personal bravery, and wa snever known to shrink from any peril to which he might be exposed while in the discharge of his duty. He was a Mason, a Red Man, an Odd Fellow and a Knight o Pythias. A widow and five children survive him.
