Franklin businessman James W. Woods apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to Johnson County Deputy Coroner John Price.
Mr. Woods, 47, 1101 E. Adams Drive, was found dead in his bedroom by his oldest son and an employee of Woods Buick-Pontiac, Inc., Price said. Woods was president of the car dealship.
Price said the shooting took place about 10:30 a. m. Tuesday.
A funeral mass will be said for Woods Friday at 10:30 a. m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Franklin. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p. m. Thursday at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home in Franklin.
A scripture is scheduled for 7:30 p. m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Woods was born April 28, 1934 in Franklin and was a lifelong area resident. His parents were William C. and Frieda Ann (Fischer) Woods.
He was married Nov. 24, 1962 in Indianapolis to Mary Ellen (Cain) Woods. She survives.
Mr. Woods waas a graduate of Franklin High School and Franklin College and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was a director for the Franklin Boys Club and served as a past councilman for St. Rose of Lima Church.
He also was amember of the Franklin Elks Club and Hillview County Club.
Other survivors include his father, two sons, James Andy Woods and Steven William Woods, both at home, and a brother, John T. Woods of California. (Obit: The Daily Journal, July 1, 1981, pg. 14)
