William C. Woods, 78, owner of the former Woods Buick-Pontiac dealership in Franklin, died Sunday in Johnson County Memorial Hospital, Franklin.
He was born April 14, 1905, in Needham to Thomas and Jesse (Patterson) Woods. He attended Needham and Clark Township schools.
He was married to Frieda Ann Fischer. She preceded him in death March 14, 1972. He married Mary J. Holmes Oct. 13, 1973, in Nashville. She survives.
Mr. Woods began his business in 1938 in the building Brown's Market now occupies. He then moved the business to the corner of Monroe and Water streets and later to U. S. 31 and Earlywoods Drive. The dealership was sold in 1982.
During World War II, he was a technical representative for Detroit Diesel Allison Division of General Motors.
He was a past president of Franklin Lions Club and a charter and life member of Franklin Elks Lodge. He was a member of Nashville Christian Church.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vandivier-Parsley Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Darryl Stout officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where a vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m.
Other survivors include a son, John T. Woods, Lompoc, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren. A stepson, Jack I. Holmes, Jensen Beach, Fla., also survives.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James W. Woods and Ralph J. Woods, and a sister, Ellie Morrison.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Franklin Lions Club or the Johnson County Heart Association. (Obit: The Daily Journal, Oct. 17, 1983 pg. 7)
