Elmer Earl was born in McGregor, Texas, to the late Monroe G. and Della (Harris) Grusendorf. In World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. and served in the 15th Air Force 450th bomb group in Italy. He flew over 35 combat missions as a ball turret armor gunner in B-24s. Elmer was formerly employed with Southwestern Bell, and retired in 1984 from American Telephone & Telegraph. He married Wanda Witt Owen on May 24, 1994, and was a member of the McGregor Zion Lutheran Church and Commander of the McGregor American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Grusendorf; daughter, Debby Homes Welch, of Brenham; sons, Michael Allen Grusendorf and Timothy Earl Grusendorf, both of McGregor; step-children, Jimmy Clay Owen and Terri Lynn Cantrell; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
