Alva L. Normandeau
Blueberry farm owner
Alva L. Normandeau, 85, of Vermilion died Sunday at Community Health Partners in Lorain after a two-year illness.
Born in Burns, Kan., he had lived in Vermilion for most of his life.
Mr. Normandeau worked as an operating engineer for the Operating Engineers Union 18, District 1, in Cleveland.
He also owned and operated a blueberry farm on state Route 60 in Vermilion.
Mr. Normandeau attended the United Church of Christ Congregational in Vermilion.
He also was a member of the Vermilion Fish and Game and the Monday Nighters Square Dancing Group of Cleveland.
Mr. Normandeau enjoyed fishing, gardening and square dancing.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruth (nee Miller); a son, Jerry of Vermilion; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Max Normando of La Habra, Calif., and a sister, Irene Cleland of Swanton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Julia (nee Herzig) Normando; and a sister, Ruth Wooster.
A private memorial service for the family will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion, where the Rev. Louis Bertoni, former pastor of the United Church of Christ in Vermilion, will officiate.
Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
