Rachel was the third of the 11 children of the Rev. Daniel Vaughan and his first wife Dinah Watkins. She was the second of their six daughters. Rachel was born in what is now Warren County, New Jersey, but at the time of her birth it was part of Sussex County. Her father was the pastor of the Knowlton Baptist Church which stood on the grounds of Union Brick Cemetery in what is now Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey.

Rachel married William Kimble in Sussex County, New Jersey. The couple migrated to New York and settled in the Town of Ulysses, which at the time was part of Cayuga County(it is now part of Tompkins County). They were living there when the 1800 census was enumerated. By 1820, the Kimbels had moved to the Town of Hector,which at the time was part of Tompkins County, but is now part of Schuyler County.

Rachel and William had 12 children:

1) Peter Kimble (born 1793).
2) David Kimble (1796-1840).
3) Lydia Kimble (born 1797).
4) William Kimble (born 1797 - died as an infant), Lydia's twin.
5) Anna Kimble (born 1799).
6) Daniel Kimble (born 1800), married Lutisha (maiden name unknown), settled in Ohio.
7) Hector "John" Kimble (born 1804), married Elizabeth Horton, lived in the Town of Hector.
8) Mary Kimble (born 1806).
9) Jacob Kimble (1808-1827).
10) Henry Kimble (1811-1866), married Catherine Ann Snyder, daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Ogden) Snyder who were originally from Sussex County, New Jersey. Sarah Ogden was Rachel Vaughan's step-sister.
11)Rachel Kimble (1813-1825).
12) William Kimble, Jr. (born 1817).
