James M. Baker, 82, Dead; Funeral Held Tuesday
James M. Baker, 82 years old and a long-time resident of Chatfield and vicinity, died at his home here Saturday following a heart attack. He had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon with Rev. S.C. Jepsen in charge. Burial was at the Chatfield Cemetery with the Masonic lodge officiating.
Mr. Baker had resided in town for more than 20 years, and preceding that on his farm south of town. He was born at Warsaw, Ind. March 11, 1860 and when a boy came to Fillmore county with his parents. He married ella Talbot March 21, 1886 at Chatfield. She passed away June 30, 1941, and a daughter Mrs. Lucy Aney died March 18th of this year.
Surviving relatives are a son, Clarence, who resides on the home farm, and a daughter, Mrs. John Meeker of Chatfield. He also leaves a brother, Sidney Baker, of Eyota and a sister, Mrs. Mary Mullen of Portland, Ore., five grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
