He was married to Gladys (Bobbie)Marie Wilken on November 18th of 1944 in South Bend Indiana. To this union were born 3 children. Jane Marie, Laurie Jeanne, and John Douglas. He was a Bagpiper, and his fellow Bagpipers marched and played their Bagpipes along the cemetery route for his funeral procession.
