U.S. Congressman. He was associated with the Summit County, Ohio, prosecuting attorney (1936-44) and elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-ninth, Eightieth, and Eighty-first Congresses, serving (1945-51). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was an investigator for the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights, (1955-58), administrative assistant with House Subcommittee on Legislative Oversight, (1958-59) and consultant with House Un-American Activities Committee, (1959-68). His last public position was a consultant with an environmental protection association, in Maryland, until his death.
