U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Princeton University, in 1909, from George Washington Law School, in 1911, and from Columbia University Law School, in 1912, was admitted to the bar in 1913 and proceeded to practice law in New York City. He was counsel for the towns of Mamaroneck, (1918-33), for Larchmont, (1926-28) and a member of the New York State Assembly, (1931-37). In 1937, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Charles D. Millard, reelected to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the eight succeeding Congresses, serving until 1957. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he lived in retirement until his death at age 73.
