MEAD – Renald M. Barrett, 76, of Mead, died Aug. 14 at the Saunders Care Center in Wahoo.
Barrett was born April 6, 1935 to Henry and Mildred (Moline) Barrett in Wahoo. He attended school at Mead Public Schools and graduated in 1952. Shortly after graduation, he became a member of the United States Naval Reserves where he was a Communication Technician until 1960. He also attended Midland Lutheran College for one year. He was the third generation of his family to own the family farm 1 1/4 miles northwest of Mead. He farmed the land throughout his life until 2001. He also worked for Omaha Public Power District from 1953 to 1973. He became the manager of Simplot Soilbuilder at Mead, working in that capacity until 1983. He then worked at several trades and business ventures until fully retiring in 2001.
He had been a member of Alma Lutheran Church, served on the Mead School Board and had been the co-leader of the Marietta 4-H Livestock Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by Inez Barrett of Mead; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marci Barrett; granddaughter, Megan Barrett, all of Monrovia, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; cousins; and special friends, Glen, JoAnn, Mark and Don Treptow.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at Alma Lutheran Church in Mead with Rev. Alena Lamirato officiating. Interment will be at Alma Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m.; also one hour visitation before the service on Wednesday.
Pallbearers are Morris Bolter, Randy Klabunde, Jamey Nygren, Glen Treptow, Dale Nygren, Marc Johnson and Brandon Ahlstrom.
Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo is in charge of the arrangements.
