Mary Eva Hopkins Barlow passed away peacefully on August 15, 2011. She was 101.
Eva was born in Andrewsville, Delaware on February 3, 1910, to Clara Thomas Hopkins and Benjamin Hopkins. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Until a week before she passed away, she lived in the home she had purchased with her husband in 1940.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her husband Clifford L. Barlow in 1979; her daughter, Charlotte L. Alphin in 1999 and son-in-law James L. Alphin Jr. in 2006. She is survived by four grandchildren, Trudy Snyder (Wes), Wayne Alphin (Kathy), Jay Alphin (Diane) and Terry Alphin (Joyce), nine great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
Eva "Granny" was someone we wish everyone could have met. She was kind, warm, loving, devoted, respectful, proud, funny, firm, patient, understanding, and the foundation of our family. She was immensely proud of her home and her family. She always told you how much she loved you and how much she appreciated her family.
A service will be held on Monday, August 22, at 1 pm, at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington, 19808. Friends may call at 12 noon. Interment will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.
