3 Oct 1939 - Humboldt Independent - "MRS. M. LINDEMANN PASSED AWAY LAST FRIDAY MORNING - Mrs. Michael Lindemann, 74, of Humboldt, passed away at her home at 4 a.m., Friday of last week. She had been ill the past few months. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon of this week, at the Springvale Chapel. Rev. H.M. Burns preached the funeral sermon, and Mrs. Wilkinson was the special reader. Burial was in Union Cemetery.
Martha Schmidt was born November 11, 1864, at Hesson Castle [Hessen-Kassel], Germany. She received her education at Zochom [this is a typo, should read Bochom], Germany. In 1833 [another typo, should be 1883] she came to America and located in Benton County, Iowa. For three years, she worked in the asylum for the Blind at Vinton, and a year later was married to Michael Lindemann.
They moved to a farm near Bradgate. Nine children were born to the union, two of whom have preceded their mother in death. They are Conrad and Martha. The living children who survive with their father are Anna Verbrugge, Henry, John and Carl, all of Humboldt, Herman of Algona, Mary of Beverly Hills, California, and Lizzie Skolton [typo, should read Scholten] of Rockford, Illinois.
On July 15, 1937, Mr. and Mrs. Lindemann celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Had she lived until November 11, Mrs. Lindemann would have been 75 years old.
Besides the widower and seven children, deceased is survived by eight grandchildren, and a host of friends."
