OBITUARY
Melville A. Pounds, a former well known and universally respected citizen of Elyria, died at his home in Brooklyn, N. Y., on Saturday, May 1. He was born in Lorain county, September 11, 1848, and on Nov. 24, 1870, was married to Miss Mary F. Johnson. Five children were born of this union, Mabel, Harry, Mary, Edgar and Ruth, of whom only two are living (Harry and Ruth.)

Mr. Pounds received his education in the Elyria high school and Berea college and was reared to agricultural pursuits but early in life evinced a great liking for horses and naturally drifted into the business of dealing in such stock. He resided in Eaton township until 1886, when he was elected sheriff and moved to Elyria, where he made his home for several years. As sheriff he served the county four years most successfully. Some years ago he moved with his family to Brooklyn, N. Y., where he engaged in real estate and building business. He was a member of King Solomon's lodge, F. and A. M., No. 56, Elyria.

Mr. Pounds will be remembered by his many friends here as a man of sterling qualities, honest and upright in all his dealings--a true friend and a loyal citizen.
