George is the son of William H H Smith and Huldah Amanda Harris Smith both buried in the same cemetery.
Little is known about George except we show him in the 1880 Census in Midland Michigan. An account of his demise in the Philippines is shown in the book The History of LaClede County by Leo Nyberg. Quote: William H. H. Smith, a veteran of the Civil War, gave a son to his country in the Spanish American War, George J. Smith who died in the Philippines
