"Mrs. W. H. H. Smith Dead"
Mrs. W. H. H. Smith, wife of a verteran of the civil war passed away at the family home in Old Town, Monday.
Funeral Services were held yesterday (October 20, 1920) at the home, conducted by Rev. H.C. Green, pastor of the M.E. Church, South. She was laid to rest at the Holman Cemetery, by the side of a son who passed away while in U.S. service in the Philipine Islands. The body was brought back to the old home for burial. Mrs. Smith was seventy six years old and had been in failing health for many months.
Notes from research:Fathers Birthplace: Harvey William Harris NY
Mother's Birthplace: Amanda Darens OH
Located in 1880 Census for Midland Michigan: Family Hx 1254595: Film Number t-9-0595 page 216C
shows her at age 36, keeps house: Father from NY and Mother from OH: Lists her as Hulda A. Smith
Further study of 1880 census shows that the birth year for both William and Hulda are 1 year in error according to
subsequent records: ie: Williams personal account in a history book of LaClede Co shows his birth year is definitely 1840.
1900 confirms exact month and year of birth for him as 8/1840 and her Feb 1843.
1860 Census of Hulda's family prior to her marriage to William in 1863 also shows 1843 for her birth year as does his 1860 Census show 1840 birth year for him.
The 1910 Census provides the first definitive locations of William's Parents and Hulda's parents origin:
cc file: Hulda's Father is from New York and Her Mother is from Ohio: William's Father is from VERMONT
and his Mother from New Jersey(maybe was NY before became NJ). This is my first finding that states facts about his parents other than Michigan.
Their grandchildren also live with them still. They live on Union Road in Lebanon, MO.
