Mr. Linkowski was raised and attended schools in Albion, NY, where he was very active in various sports and was awarded sixteen letters for his achievements. John was given the nickname of "the Albion Antelope" by a sportswriter. He served in the United States Army, during World War II, from August 22, 1943 until his honorable discharge on March 11, 1946. While serving, Mr. Linkowski was awarded the Air Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. John came to Niagara Falls, NY in 1955. On July 21, 1956, he married the former M. Joan Burroughs. For 35 years, Mr. Linkowski worked as a cable splicer for the former New York Telephone Company, until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Linkowski attended Colonial Village Church. John was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers, Lewiston #2 Volunteer Fire Company, the Elks Lodge in the Town of Niagara, NY and the VFW Post #54. He served as a volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Linkowski was an avid golfer and bowler. Recently, John was awarded by George Maziarz and John Ceretto, as representatives of the New York State Senate and the New York State Assembly, for his faithful service in the volunteer fire service.
In addition to his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Mr. Linkowski is survived by four children, Lynne (Jeff) Jeckovich of Niagara Falls, NY, John (Amy) Linkowski of Niagara Falls, NY, James (Jeannie) Linkowski of Lewiston, NY and Daniel Linkowski of Austin, TX; ten grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kristen and Lauren Jeckovich, Cinnamon, Timothy, Matthew, Patrick, Jacob and Jeremy Linkowski and Joshua Pardee, and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Evan. John is also survived by two sisters, Florence Pontillo of California and Emily Giarrizzo of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
