Kathrina (Catherine) Hain(Heen,Hahn)was born in or near Lancaster, Wisconsin in 1849. Her mother died when she was about two years old and it would appear from census records that she was raised by her Grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Conrad Knapp (Napp). She married Herman Alt on March 28, 1870 in Grant County Wisconsin. By 1895 they were living in Clayton Iowa and lived out their days there. There is some confusion about Herman being married twice and the facts are not yet clear to me. From what I have seen, I suspect they may have divorced and then remarried. Whatever happened, they had a bunch of kids! I count 14, but I haven't proved them all yet. According to her death record, she had been ill with pnuemonia for about 10 days, but had suffered from another ailment for 17 years before her death. I cannot make out what the mystery ailment was, but it clearly states she had it for 17 years.
