Retired Farmer Succumbs After Five-Year Illness

In Failing health for the past five years and in a serious condition for two weeks, John B. Fischer, 79, retired Shelby county farmer, died at his home in Hendricks township this morning.
A native of Liberty township, Mr. Fischer was born on March 20, 1873, the son of Bernard and Elizabeth (Derkison) Fischer. On October 30, 1900, he was married to Katherine Minister who survives with four children. Earl Fischer and Mrs. Eileen Merrick at home; Mrs. William Woods of Franklin and Mrs. Edward Braunagle of Blue Ridge. A daughter, Mrs. Loriena Thoman preceded him in death and three sons died in infancy.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Frank Weintraut of Waldron; Mrs. Mary Weintraut of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Anna Niese of Indianapolis. There are 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Fischer was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and funeral services in charge of the Murphy Mortuary, will be held at the church Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Rev. Anthony Seger will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday. (Obit: Shelbyville News, Jan. 12, 1953)
