US Congressman. Born in Wareham, Massachusetts, during World War I he served in the United States Army, (1917-19). After the war, he was an assessor in Wareham, Massachusetts, served in the Massachusetts State House of Representatives (1925-26) and was a member of the Massachusetts State Senate, (1926-47). In 1947, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Charles L. Gifford and reelected to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1959. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he retired to Wareham, Massachusetts, until his death at age 79.
