Funeral Services for John Ferkenhoff, 90

Funeral services were held last Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg for Mr. John Ferkenhoff 90, the oldest citizen of Oldenburg. He passed away at his home in Oldenburg on Saturday Sept. 15. He has been in failing health for 5 weeks.
Mr. Ferkenhoff was born in Iowa March 6, 1861. At the age of 2 years old he came here and was engaged in farming near Peppertown where he lived 50 years. He was united in marriage to Miss Magdalena Riedeman and the past 40 years were spent in Oldenburg. His wife preceded him in death several years ago. He lived with a daughter and Son-In-Law Mr. and Mrs. Ivo Kirschner.
Survivors include four sons and four daughters, William and Ed Ferkenhoff of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Ralph and Joe of Oldenburg, Mrs. Theresa Weintraut of Waldron, Indiana, Mrs. Euliala Kirschner and Mrs. Genevieve Lamping of Oldenburg, Mrs. Felecia Firsich of Batesville. He has 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Two daughters Josephine and Martha also preceded him in death.
Mr. Ferkenhoff was a faithful member of St. Joseph Mens Society and Holy Name Society. Rev. Charles Miller officiated at the Requiem Mass and at the burial in Holy Family Church Cemetery. M. C. Weigel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
The community extends its sympathy to the bereaved children for the loss of the father. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. George Weintraut, Miss Mary Lamping and daughters, Helen and Matilda, Mr. William Shubert of Indianapolis, Mrs. Mayme Seller and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weintraut, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Pollman, Mr. Charles Fischer, Mr. Carl Roell of Shelbyville, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weintraut and family, Mrs. Freda Ricke, Frances and Amanda Weintraut, Mrs. Harry Brades, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Froeling of Waldron, Indiana, Mrs. Joe Schwier and son Joseph, Mr. and Mrs. John Brunswick, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Feie and son all of Cincinnati, Dr. and Mrs. Rupp, Mr. William Ferkenhoff of St. Cloud Minnesota, Private William J. Lamping of Fort Hood, Texas, and A. N. James Firsich of Pearl Harbor.
Six grandsons were pall bearers, Thomas and Allen Kirschner, George Weintraut, Dan Ferkenhoff, Private William Lamping, and A. M. James Firsich. (Obit: The Herald Tribune, Batesville, IN, Sep. 27, 1951)
