Singer. She is fondly remembered as one of Israel's greatest singers. She came from Hatikva, a poor part of Tel Aviv. From there, she rose to be one of Israel's few International known singers. In 1983, she represented Israel in the Eurovision song contest. The song "Chai" was awarded second place. She also performed at the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize award presentation in Oslo, Norway. She had a hit with the song "Im Nin Alu." Her album 'Shaday' sold over a million copies world wide. In the last years of her life, she appeared in many projects, among them the soundtrack for the film "Prince of Egypt." She died at the Sheba hospital in Tel Aviv. After her death from AIDS, the Israeli media blamed her husband for transmitting the disease, but he denied it, stating that she got it from a blood transfusion at a hospital while she was dealing with a miscarriage. Her death from the AIDS virus shocked not only Israel, but fans from all over the world.
