U.S. Congressman. He was a ship master, later became the ship owner of the whaler Ganges and engaged in mercantile pursuits. In 1809, he was elected as a Republican to the Eleventh Congress, serving until 1811. After leaving Congress, he was the bearer of a petition from the citizens of Nantucket to Congress for tax relief in 1813 and resumed his former business pursuits until his death at age 72.
